Dallas police are investigating a string of four fatal shootings that unfolded across the city during the Labor Day holiday weekend, according to department officials.
The first happened Sept. 6 around 6:20 p.m. near the 5600 block of South R.L. Thornton Freeway, in the Oak Cliff area, when a 27-year-old man was shot by an unidentified attacker. He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition and died the following day. Later that night, just after midnight on Sept. 7, officers answering a disturbance call in the 5100 block of Cardiff Street found a 64-year-old man fatally shot; a 33-year-old suspect was taken into custody and charged with murder.
Around midday on Sept. 7, gunfire broke out near Plano Road and Walnut Hill Lane in the Lake Highlands area, striking a 33-year-old driver who then crashed his car into a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and the shooters have not yet been identified. That night, close to 11:10 p.m., a 56-year-old man was killed in the 2500 block of Cherry Valley Boulevard in the Pleasant Grove neighborhood, allegedly by a 59-year-old man who was later found with a gunshot wound of his own. He remains hospitalized under police guard and is expected to face murder charges.
All four cases remain under investigation, and Dallas police are urging anyone with information to reach out to the assigned detectives listed in the original department release.
