A young boy suffered serious injuries Saturday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle his grandfather was driving in Rockwall County. The incident happened around 1:45 p.m. on September 5 in the 1000 block of Smith Acres Drive, prompting a response from the Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office.
According to investigators, the eight-year-old was run over by his grandfather as the vehicle moved through the driveway of a home in the area. The child sustained major injuries to his abdomen and midsection.
Given the severity of his condition, emergency crews called in a CareFlite helicopter, with assistance from the Fate Fire Department, to fly the boy to Children’s Medical Center Dallas for treatment. The Sheriff’s Office says the case remains under investigation, and names of both the child and his grandfather are being withheld for now. Child Protective Services has also been looped in as authorities continue looking into the circumstances of the accident.
