An officer was injured and a suspect was shot Monday evening following a police chase that began in Cleburne and ended in gunfire outside a Burleson Sam's Club, according to authorities.
The pursuit started around 6:30 p.m. when Cleburne police attempted to stop a blue pickup truck. The chase headed north on Highway 67 before merging onto Interstate 35W, with officers reporting gunfire near a QuikTrip gas station at the Highway 67 and I-35W interchange.
The chase came to a close at the Sam's Club located at 600 S. Burleson Blvd., where a gunfight broke out between the driver and pursuing officers. The suspect was struck by gunfire, and an officer was also hurt, reportedly suffering a leg wound. Burleson EMS took the officer to a Fort Worth trauma center, escorted by Fort Worth police, and radio traffic indicated he was in stable condition at the time of transport.
The Texas Rangers have taken over the investigation into the officer-involved shooting, which is standard procedure for such incidents in Texas. Officials said additional details were expected to be released the following day.
