FORT WORTH, Texas - Three people are dead after a wrong-way driver slammed into two vehicles early Tuesday on Highway 121 in Fort Worth, according to police. The crash was reported around 1:20 a.m. near the Airport Freeway and North Riverside Drive, an area on the city's east side not far from Fort Worth Meacham International Airport. Fort Worth police say an SUV carrying a single adult driver entered the westbound lanes of Highway 121 while heading east, driving directly into oncoming traffic. The SUV first sideswiped a car carrying three passengers who attempted to swerve out of its path; that vehicle's driver-side rear was struck, but no serious injuries were reported. The SUV kept traveling against traffic and crashed head-on into a four-door sedan carrying four occupants — three adults and a child. The wrong-way driver died at the scene, along with two adult women who were riding in the sedan. The sedan's male driver and a child passenger, believed to be 10 or 11 years old, were taken to area hospitals with injuries that are not considered life-threatening. Fort Worth police's Traffic Investigation Unit responded to examine the scene, and the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office will formally identify those killed.
