ARLINGTON, Texas - An Arlington home was heavily damaged by fire Sunday evening as a fast-moving thunderstorm moved through the area, forcing firefighters to abandon an initial interior attack because of extreme heat and concerns about the structure.
The Arlington Fire Department responded at approximately 6:07 p.m. Sept. 20 to the 6700 block of New York Avenue after multiple callers reported a house on fire.
The fire broke out while the department was handling several other active incidents in south Arlington as the storm passed through the city.
The first firefighters to arrive found heavy flames extending through the roof of the single-story home. All occupants had made it safely outside.
Crews initially entered the residence to attack the fire from inside but were forced to retreat as conditions deteriorated. Fire officials cited extreme heat and concerns about the structural integrity of the home.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control within an hour.
No residents or firefighters were injured.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
