Roanoke, Texas - A Roanoke police officer is in critical condition following a crash during a motorcycle traffic stop early Sunday morning, September 20, 2026. The collision occurred on State Highway 114 just west of Interstate 35W, an area where officers had stepped up patrols due to repeated complaints about motorcyclists speeding through the corridor during an event at Texas Motor Speedway.
According to Roanoke police, the officer was riding a department motorcycle and attempted to pull over a rider who instead sped away. While fleeing, the motorcyclist and the pursuing officer both collided with another vehicle on SH 114.
The injured officer was rushed to a nearby hospital and remains in critical condition. The motorcyclist who fled is in custody and is also receiving hospital treatment for injuries suffered in the wreck.
