Irving Man Accused of Forcing His Way Into Apartment While Searching for Woman Protected by Court Order

Jeremiah Barrera

IRVING, Texas - An Irving man who was out on bond in a family violence case is accused of forcing his way into a Walnut Hill Lane apartment while searching for the same woman he was previously charged with assaulting, according to an arrest affidavit.

Jeremiah Lee Barrera, 29, was arrested Sept. 27 after two encounters with police at the Rustic Ridge Apartments in the 3000 block of W. Walnut Hill Lane.

According to the affidavit, residents answered a knock at their apartment and Barrera pushed the front door open, forcing his way past two people. The two residents were pushed into a table, causing an internet modem to fall and break.

Once inside, Barrera began shouting a woman's name and searching the apartment for her, the affidavit states. He allegedly struck a bathroom door while attempting to force it open, causing additional damage.

The residents repeatedly told Barrera to leave, and he eventually fled.

At about 12:40 a.m., Irving police returned to the apartment complex after witnesses reported seeing Barrera trying to enter the same apartment through a window. Officers detained him nearby.

During the investigation, an officer confirmed that an active protective order prohibited Barrera from assaulting, threatening, abusing, harassing, following, interfering with or stalking the woman he had been trying to find.

The affidavit does not identify Barrera's relationship to the woman.

Police also reported finding Barrera outside without shoes and running in the roadway. An officer said Barrera smelled of alcohol and admitted having "a few drinks." According to the affidavit, he displayed all six clues administered during a horizontal gaze nystagmus examination.

Barrera was taken to the Irving Jail and charged with burglary of a habitation, criminal mischief, criminal trespass of a habitation and public intoxication. His bond was set at $7,000.

Court records provided with the case show Barrera was already out on bond following an arrest in early August on two counts of assault causing bodily injury involving family violence. Those charges stem from accusations that he assaulted the same woman he was searching for at the apartment Sept. 27.

The new charges are separate from that pending case, and the affidavit does not indicate that Barrera has been convicted of either August's charges or the allegations stemming from the Sept. 27 incident.

Barrera also has a previous assault conviction involving a different woman. In April 2025, he accepted a plea agreement on an assault causing bodily injury charge after being accused of hitting the woman. He served 45 days in the Dallas County Jail.
