Venus, Texas - A woman died early Thursday after the vehicle she was riding in collided with the rear of a tractor-trailer on westbound U.S. Highway 67 in Venus, according to local authorities. The crash was reported around 12:40 a.m. near the FM 157 intersection, prompting a response from Venus police, fire crews and CareFlite EMS.
Investigators said the preliminary findings show the vehicle rear-ended the 18-wheeler on the highway. Two people inside the car were treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to a nearby hospital for further care.
The female driver later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Authorities have not released additional details about the second occupant's condition.
Venus police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal wreck, which remains an active case as officials work to determine what led to the collision.
