Officer Hears Gunshots During Traffic Stop on Interstate 35

At approximately 1:30 a.m. Saturday, a Glenn Heights police officer was conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 35 near Parkerville Road.

During the stop, the officer heard multiple gunshots coming from the surrounding area.

Shortly afterward, the officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed without its headlights activated.

Based on the gunfire and the vehicle's suspicious behavior, the officer discontinued the original traffic stop and attempted to pull over the speeding vehicle.

However, the driver failed to comply and fled, initiating a police pursuit.

The department did not disclose how fast the vehicle was traveling or whether the officer witnessed anyone firing a weapon.

The pursuit continued until the fleeing vehicle crashed.

Following the collision, all three occupants exited the vehicle and ran from the scene.

Additional officers responded and quickly established a perimeter around the area.

Police searched for the fleeing individuals and successfully apprehended two of the three occupants.

The third individual was not located.

Authorities have not released the identities or ages of the two people arrested, nor have they provided a description of the outstanding suspect.

The department also did not specify where the crash occurred, whether anyone was injured or whether other vehicles were involved.

Two Suspects Charged With Firearm Offense and Evading Arrest

Based on the officer's observations and evidence recovered during the investigation, police charged the two individuals taken into custody with:

  • Disorderly Conduct - Discharge of a Firearm

  • Evading Arrest or Detention

Under Texas law, disorderly conduct involving the discharge of a firearm generally applies when a person knowingly or intentionally fires a gun in a public place other than a public road, or across a public road, in circumstances prohibited by state law.

Evading arrest or detention involves intentionally fleeing from a peace officer who is lawfully attempting to arrest or detain someone.

The Glenn Heights Police Department did not specify whether the evading charges involve flight in a motor vehicle or on foot, a distinction that can affect the classification and potential penalties.

Investigators also have not disclosed what evidence was recovered or whether any firearms were seized.

Third Suspect Remains at Large

Police confirmed that the third occupant of the vehicle has not been apprehended.

Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the gunshots, the fleeing vehicle and the subsequent crash.
