Upon arrival at the scene, officers found an SUV wrapped around a light pole, with the driver trapped inside. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, the driver was pronounced dead on site.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the SUV was traveling in the eastbound lanes of I-20 when the driver attempted to pass another vehicle. During the maneuver, the SUV made contact with the second vehicle, causing the driver to lose control. The SUV then struck a guardrail before coming to a rest against a light pole.
Speed is suspected to be a contributing factor to the accident, with authorities believing that the SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the collision.
The identity of the deceased driver is being withheld pending notification of their family.
