On the evening of September 15, 2023, Waco Police Officers and the Waco Fire Department responded to a drowning incident at Lake Waco, near Speegleville Park, at approximately 6:35 p.m.
The Waco Fire Department’s Swift Dive Team pulled an 19-year-old male from the water. Waco Police Officers learned that he was swimming with friends in an area marked as a no-swim zone. When he went underwater, they could not see him return for air, and after a few moments, they called 9-1-1.
