CHRISTUS Good Shepherd's Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Program Earns National Certification

CHRISTUS Good Shepherd is thrilled to announce the official certification of its cardiovascular rehabilitation program by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). The prestigious three-year certification stands as a testament to CHRISTUS Good Shepherd's unwavering dedication to enhancing patient care standards and improving the overall quality of life for its patients.

Karlee Small, cardiac rehab clinical director, expressed her gratitude, stating, "To be recognized at the national level is a credit to the work done by our Associates on a daily basis."

In 2018, AACVPR transitioned to an outcomes-based evaluation process, emphasizing performance measurements that reflect more meaningful outcomes for patients. According to the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, participation in cardiac rehabilitation significantly reduces the risk of death by nearly 35% in the five years following a heart attack or bypass surgery.

Marcia Oxsheer, RN, highlighted the program's multidisciplinary approach, saying, "Cardiac rehab is a multidisciplinary approach using RNs and exercise physiologists that provides individual care to our East Texas community. We pride ourselves on developing relationships with our patients to guide them through their recovery."

The recent certification follows CHRISTUS Good Shepherd's earlier recognition this summer when it received the prestigious Platinum Performance Achievement Award from the American College of Cardiology for its exceptional cardiac care services.

"We want to be the complete heart care program for patients in East Texas, and cardiac rehab plays a vital part in that," emphasized Susan Amundsen, administrative director of nursing for cardiovascular services at CHRISTUS Good Shepherd. "We are so proud of them and the work they do to help our patients recover effectively and efficiently."

The certification reaffirms CHRISTUS Good Shepherd's commitment to providing top-notch cardiac care to its community, marking a significant milestone in the hospital's ongoing efforts to improve the lives of its patients.
