In an incident on Monday, December 4th, emergency responders from Dallas Fire-Rescue and Dallas County Sheriff's (DCSO) deputies rushed to the interchange of North Stemmons Freeway (I35E) and the Dallas North Tollway following a 911 call reporting a major accident at 2:29 p.m.
The accident resulted in a box truck hanging off the Stemmons Freeway overpass with the driver trapped inside. Due to the inaccessibility of the driver, the first responders requested assistance from the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Team. After stabilizing the truck, USAR technicians used two ladder trucks to carry out the rescue operation.
One ladder truck was positioned on the road beneath, lifting USAR technicians to the cab of the truck. Using a rope system fashioned at the tip of the second ladder, positioned above the cab, team members successfully reached the driver. After packaging him into a harness, the driver was securely attached to the rope system and lifted to safety.
The rescued driver was subsequently transported to a local hospital for evaluation. Additionally, another vehicle was involved in the accident, resulting in one person from that vehicle being transported to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.
