In the early hours of Thursday, December 21, 2023, at around 2:10 a.m., the Arlington Police Department responded to a residence in the 1300 block of South Pecan Street following a reported burglary and shooting.
Upon arrival, officers were directed inside by the residents, where they discovered an adult female lying unresponsive on the floor with a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the residents, they were asleep when their teenage son alerted them to an unfamiliar voice inside their home. The father, in response, armed himself with a handgun and proceeded to investigate. In the kitchen, he encountered the woman, instructed her to leave, but reported that she became confrontational and advanced toward him. Subsequently, he discharged his firearm, hitting the woman.
The residents conveyed to officers that they did not recognize the woman and had never seen her before. Fortunately, neither they nor their children sustained injuries during the incident.
The deceased woman did not possess any identification, leaving the circumstances surrounding her presence in the home unclear. Investigations are underway to determine the reasons behind her being at the residence and how she gained entry.
As of now, no criminal charges have been filed in connection to the incident. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to release the identity of the deceased once she is positively identified, and her next of kin has been notified.
